This section contains an important step that you must take anytime you implement a Resonate click redirect tag in Facebook.
In October 2018, Facebook announced updates to their tracking tag which requires a change to how you implement Resonate click redirect tags in Facebook. Without this change, the people who click on your ad will not be redirected to your landing page.
Important Step Needed
Please Note: When creating click tags for Facebook, you should add a question mark (?) at the end of the landing page URL. Create your click redirect tags the usual way in Resonate, copy the code from the Resonate platform, add your landing page URL, and include a question mark at the end. You only need to do this for click redirect tags used in Facebook.
Example Tag ready to implement on Facebook below:
- If you have existing click tags already deployed on Facebook, you should immediately edit your tags to add a question mark after the landing page URL.
- This change applies to the following 4 Resonate click redirect tag types:
- Click - Encoded Redirect
- Click - Unencoded Redirect
- Media - Click Encoded Redirect
- Media - Click Unencoded Redirect
- Be sure to test your Facebook ad before setting it liveto ensure you are redirected to the correct landing page. If you do not implement the question mark (?) correctly, your clickers will not be redirected to the correct landing page.
- Please reach out to Resonate Tag Support or your Customer Success Manager if you have any questions or need support.
Additional Information about Facebook’s change:
Facebook recently announced changes to their tracking tag, adding a first party cookie option so advertisers can continue accessing data after Apple’s Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) changes to Safari. Now when someone clicks on an ad in Facebook, the landing page redirect will include event data which can be appended to Facebook’s first party cookie. This is the change that breaks Resonate click redirect tags so people who click on the ad are longer sent to the advertiser’s landing page properly.
